Courtroom Showdown at the State Capitol

Over the next week, maybe two, there will be a showdown in the legislature befitting the best courtroom drama … and it will have to do with our courts. “Special interests” will control the state Supreme Court; the only question is which ones will it be? And whatever the legislature decides may be the way it will be for a long, long time. Here’s the politics of it.

An Interesting Bit of Political History

Part of the fight over the election of Supreme Court Judges is whether having real elections will inject politics into the Supreme Court. For those who know their history, the irony of this argument is actually quite funny.

A Question No One Can Answer

A few weeks ago a legal argument was presented to the House Civil Practice Subcommittee on the constitutionality of the current process for electing Supreme Court Judges. It raised a few eyebrows among the lawyers on the subcommittee, all of whom are good lawyers who hopefully want to apply sound legal principles to determine what the state Constitution requires. What’s the question they can’t answer?

Petitioning the Great Judge

This Thursday, May 7, is the National Day of Prayer. Now more than ever we need to pray for our nation, and on a number of fronts. The Family Action Council of Tennessee would encourage everyone to join other Christians to pray for their nation, state and community. Find a prayer event in your county.
