And one person who can make a difference is YOU. More than ever before, we need you to:
- share our email communications with your friends and neighbors, and invite them to subscribe themselves so that they don’t have to depend on your availability,
- encourage your congregation to start a Salt and Light Committee,
- encourage your minister to attend Ministers’ Day on the Hill or one of our regional Ministers’ Prayer Breakfasts and Legislative Briefings,
- attend our informational community meetings when in your vicinity,
- distribute our upcoming nonpartisan Voter Guide far and wide, and
- support us financially to the extent you are able.
Asking for your financial support is the least favorite part of my job. But I have come to understand two very important things.
First, by our financial support (and yes, I give financially, too), we are not just doing something “charitable.” Rather, we have an opportunity to participate in something much bigger than ourselves that we could not do alone and that can make a difference in so many areas.
Helping to shape the culture such that it respects life and God’s design for human sexuality cannot help but bring about a decrease in abortion and a decrease in out-of-wedlock births and poverty-inducing single parenthood. A culture that respects marriage will see marriage reinforced, and stronger marriages and the effect of intact families in reducing the pathologies in our culture cannot be denied or overstated.
Second, it takes money to provide the phone lines, Web hosting, cable network, computers, email software, travel expenses, voter guides, and initiatives like Ministers’ Day on the Hill. There is a lot “behind the scenes” to what you see. And without your financial partnership, nothing can go forward.
If you have read our Family Action News this year and felt better informed and educated or if you have taken advantage of the opportunity we provide for you to quickly fire off an email to your elected official, would you take a minute, now, and make a financial contribution to this effort? By making your contribution, you will be letting us know that you are excited about what has been done, but that you are ready to see us do even more, to reach even more people.
Do not think for a moment that your contribution would be too small to make a difference. Every bit helps, and we would never despise the widow’s mite. Our stewardship responsibilities extend equally to every financial partner and to every dollar.
By the grace of God, and with your help and participation, we can make a difference for years to come.
I’m excited. Really excited. Come join us as, together, we help equip fellow Tennesseans and our public officials with the tools they need to promote and defend the traditional family, for the sake of our common good.
P.S.
For those who have not yet supported The Family Action Council of Tennessee this year, a generous donor has agreed to increase his $2,000 matching grant opportunity to $2,500, and extend it to all who contribute for the first time this year by online contribution or check postmarked on or before December 26, 2009.
