As the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., once said, “The church must be reminded that it is … the conscience of the state.” With this end in mind, FACT has designed its Ministers’ Day on the Hill to encourage ministers and their congregations to stay abreast of family policy issues and to use their influence positively through participation and prayer.
Ministers will assemble in the House Chamber in the state Capitol to learn about Tennessee’s political process and to make their presence known to the legislature. Lunch will follow at the Hermitage Hotel.
To open the time together, some of Tennessee’s top state officials will greet and pray with us. Later, you will have the opportunity to talk and pray in small groups with your local representatives and fellow area ministers. The day's schedule includes:
- Rev. Walter Hoye II: Why We Can’t Wait
(The
Rev. Hoye is an elder at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church of Berkeley, CA.)
- Erik Stanley and Kevin Theriot: Unleashing the Voice of the Church
(Mr. Stanley and Mr. Theriot head the
Alliance Defense Fund's Pulpit Initiative and Church Project, respectively.)
- David Fowler: An Insider’s Update on Pro-Family Public Policy in Tennessee
(Mr. Fowler is a former three-term state senator and now president of the Family Action Council of Tennessee.)
Worship will be led by Christian recording artist Steve Garrett, lead pastor of New River Fellowship in Franklin.
Tennessee Prayer Breakfast
For those who may be coming from out of town, you can make the most of your time in Nashville by attending earlier that morning the Tennessee Prayer Breakfast. The breakfast will be down the street from the capitol and will conclude in time for you to arrive at Ministers’ Day just up the Hill. Register for the Tennessee Prayer Breakfast.
